Rebels March on at ITA Regionals

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Ole Miss is the only school with multiple teams left in the doubles draw at the ITA Southern Regional Championships, with two of its three teams reaching the semifinals with a pair of tiebreak wins. In singles, All-American Arianne Hartono advanced to the quarterfinals.
Two teams in doubles semifinals
Zalina Khairudinova and Tea Jandric booked their spot in the final four by first taking out the No. 3 seed, Michaud and Griffin of Auburn 8-6 in the round of 16. In the quarterfinals, Khairudinova and Jandric won a tiebreaker, 8-7(5) over Spielmann and Hinton of Alabama. Joining them in the semifinals is Natalie Suk and Anna Vrbenska. The pair won two tight matches Saturday, as they defeated Gerlach and Hepp of Samford 8-6 in the round of 16 and then Turner and Axon of Auburn in a tiebreaker, 8-7(2). Suk and Vrbenska will face Kitchen and Dresher of Southern Miss in the semifinals.
Hartono into singles quarterfinals
Ole Miss had two players in the round of 16 in singles Saturday with Khairudinova and Hartono. Khairudinova fell to the No. 1 seed, Andie Dikosavljevic of Auburn 6-1, 6-2. Hartono, the No. 2 seed, beat Alannah Griffin of Auburn 6-3, 6-4 to reach the quarterfinals, where she will face the No. 8 seed Ryann Foster of LSU.

"We definitely played some quality doubles today. It's exciting to be the only school with multiple teams in the semis. Hopefully we can continue that trend tomorrow. Arianne played a solid singles match and beat a quality opponent. If she can serve a little bit better tomorrow she has a great chance to advance, as she looked really good from the baseline."
