OXFORD, Miss.-- The Ole Miss volleyball team will host Book it to The Pavilion tomorrow as the Rebels take on Alabama at 1:30 p.m. CT. The team has asked all fans who attend to bring a new children's book in exchange for a free men's basketball ticket to the Dec. 15 game against Murray State.

Book it to the Pavilion is partnered with the Lafayette County Literacy Council to encourage literacy within the community. Lafayette County is known for its university, strong public school system and relative wealth, but estimates show that 20-25 percent of adults within the county can't read well enough to fill out a job application.

"Every study shows that literacy breaks the cycle of poverty, strengthens families and relationships, promotes self-esteem, and broadens perspectives of the world," said Executive Director Sarah McLellan. "Every study shows that communities with lower literacy rates struggle with higher levels of poverty, crime, teenage pregnancy, and more."

The Lafayette County Literacy Council's mission is to improve the quality of life in Oxford and Lafayette County through literacy and readings. The Council prioritizes professionally developed and administered literacy education programs and a love of reading to children and families. They aspire to serve as a literacy resource for the community while simultaneously becoming a first-class organization for its members.

"Every time we help one adult learn to read or help a child not fall further behind, we are helping make Lafayette County a community that people want to live in -- good jobs, good schools, and a good quality of life," said McLellan.

The Ole Miss volleyball team is a proud supporter of this initiative and believes that with the help and commitment of fans, it can influence the literacy within the community.

"We respect and admire the efforts of the Lafayette County Literacy Council and believe that this partnership will contribute to bettering the beautiful community we live in," said Head Coach Steven McRoberts. "Our girls are excited about the cause and believe that, with the help of our fans, we can really make an impact."
