Steven McRoberts Weekly Press Conference
10/24/2016 | Volleyball
Ole Miss volleyball head coach Steven McRoberts met with members of the media on Monday as part of his weekly press conference. Coach McRoberts discussed the Rebels' recent matches, including a 3-1 win vs. Alabama on Sunday.
On last week's matches…
"It was a tough five set loss last Wednesday night to Auburn. We broke the single match mark for digs with 105. We had lots of opportunities. Seems to be kind of the story of the season, lots of opportunities. Once conference hit, we just weren't taking advantage of those opportunities. It was nice to come back and beat Alabama. For some reason, we've got Alabama's number. I don't know why but it's one of those things that you don't ask, you're just glad when they show up and you've lost five in a row. Somehow we put it all together and this was even without Kathryn Cather in the lineup which hasn't been a good thing for us typically. We hit a higher percentage in conference, almost 300 against them. Lexi Thompson and Kate Gibson both had a good match on the same day. That hasn't happened in a while. When both of them get going, it gives us a really good shot to win. Emily Stroup stepped in and had a really good match as a freshman stepping in for Kat. Then Taylor Alexander has had a couple of really good matches for us in the middle. She hit for a high percentage."
On Florida…
"We turn around this week and go to No. 10 Florida who is right there pushing to win the conference championship again. They're playing as good as anybody, not only in our conference but in the nation, so it's going to be a tough test. It's the only match that we have this weekend. We just look to build on this win over Alabama and keep that confidence going. It's going to be a tough task to do that against Florida. We played them well here, and we'll go in and do our best this weekend there. Our next three matches are all on the road. The thing that I've loved about this team is that they still continue to work hard and keep good attitudes even when things haven't been going that well."
