After two difficult back-to-back road games, Ole Miss returns home to the friendly confines of Vaught-Hemingway Stadium for the first time in nearly a month.
Awaiting the Rebels are the Auburn Tigers, Ole Miss' sixth ranked opponent of the season as well as the fourth one ranked in the top-15. Ole Miss has been up to the challenge when taking on highly ranked opponents under Freeze. Only Alabama, Stanford, and Florida State have more top-15 wins than the Rebels since 2012.
"Such is the life in the SEC West, and it doesn't get any easier moving forward," Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze said. "Auburn is an outstanding football team, maybe the best defense as far as points per game that we've seen. Only giving up 14 points a game is unheard of almost these days."
Auburn makes life difficult for opposing offenses by limiting big plays. They rank second in the SEC in percentage of plays allowing more than 10 yards. Ole Miss' offense leads the SEC in the same statistic.
"Whether it is (Carl) Lawson or (Montravius) Adams or their two backups, they are two deep in every position and definitely an SEC talent," Freeze said. "They are an elite defense."
The Tigers offense also looks to have returned to its 2014 form, gashing teams on the ground. Auburn's 302.9 rushing yards per game is 17.6 yards more than any other team in a Power 5 conference.
"They are really talented to begin with and they have a good system that really makes you defend the entire field," Freeze said. "They are very physical, very difficult to defend and their defense is giving them a lot of possessions because their defense is not giving up anything."
Vaught-Hemingway has been a difficult venue for opponents. The Rebels haven't lost more than one game at home since 2013.
"I am glad it's at home," Freeze said. "We are glad to be back home in front of our fans in our stadium and hopefully that will give us an extra amount of energy as we go in another SEC West battle."
The SEC showdown kicks off at 6:15 and will be televised on SEC Network.
