Rebels in Athens to Face Georgia Sunday

OXFORD, Miss. - Looking for their third straight win against the Bulldogs, the Ole Miss volleyball team faces Georgia Sunday in Athens. First serve is set for 1 p.m. CT from the Ramsey Center.

• The Rebels dropped a tough five-setter to Mississippi State Wednesday in Starkville.
• It marked the team's 10th five-setter this season. The Rebels are now 5-5 in five-set matches and have lost the last five after winning the first five.
• The Rebels, who lead the league in digs per set in SEC matches, tallied 69 digs.
• Senior Aubrey Edie posted her 12th double-double with 38 assists and 12 digs.
• Lexi Thompson recorded her 18th double-double of the season with 12 kills and 13 digs. She has now totaled double-digit kills in 23 matches this season.
• Thompson inched closer to 1,000 kills now with 981. She needs 19 to join teammate Kate Gibson with that feat.
• Kate Gibson tallied 12 kills and 8 digs. She has now posted double-digit kills in all but three matches this season and missed her 14th double-double by two digs.
• Taylor Alexander posted a career-high 10 blocks and missed her first career double-double by one, with 9 kills. She now has 108 blocks, which ranks fifth best in a season. Alexander needs four to move to fourth.
• Freshman Nayo Warnell finished with 7 kills on a .538 clip. It marks the fifth straight set match for her to hit above .300.
• Caroline Adams tied her career high with 24 digs.
Scouting Georgia…
Georgia enters the match at 13-15, 1-14 in the SEC. Their lone win in the league came against South Carolina. The Bulldogs are led by junior outside hitter Maddie Lobenstein, who averages 3.12 kills per set. Freshman setter Meghan Donovan directs the offense and is hitting .303 to lead the team. She averages 9.68 assists per set.
Rebels vs. Bulldogs…
Georgia leads the all-time series 40-17 over the Rebels, but Ole Miss has won the last three meetings. The Rebels won both meetings last year, 3-0 in Oxford and 3-1 in Athens.
Thompson Doubling Up…
Junior outside hitter Lexi Thompson leads the SEC in double-doubles with 18. Thompson recorded her 18th in the loss at Mississippi State with 12 kills and 13 digs. For her career, Thompson has 31 double-doubles.
Gibson Doubles Up Too…
Junior outside hitter Kate Gibson posted her 13th double-double with 16 kills and 13 digs in the win over Tennessee and ranks fourth in the SEC.
Alexander Making her Mark…
Junior middle blocker Taylor Alexander is making her mark on the court this year for the Rebels. Against Mississippi State, Alexander posted a career-high 10 blocks and missed her first career double-double with nine kills. With 108 blocks, Alexander cracked the top five for a single season at Ole Miss and needs four to move to fourth.
Thompson Making Her Way Up Career Ladder…Lexi Thompson is making her way up the career charts at Ole Miss in kills and digs. With 981 career kills, Thompson ranks sixth all-time and needs 19 to record her 1,000th and move up to fifth. She has also added her name once again to the single-season list with 388 this year. She already holds the single-season kills record by a freshman with 324 in 2014 and is chasing teammate Kate Gibson for the top spot. With 878 career digs, Thompson ranks seventh and needs 72 to move into sixth.
Single-Season Kills Record Belongs to Gibson…
With her 16 kills in the win over Tennessee, Kate Gibson set the single season record now with 397. She eclipsed the previous record of 366 set by All-American Nakeyta Clair in 2014. Gibson needs three kills to record her 400th. Lexi Thompson is hot on her heels with 388.
1,000 Times Two…
Kate Gibson recorded her 1,000th kill at Auburn and now has 1,047. Her teammate, Lexi Thompson, is closing in on her 1,000th kill as well. With 981, she needs 19. With 927 digs, Gibson is on pace to become the first Rebel to join the 1,000/1,000 club in the rally scoring era. Thompson is right behind needing just 19 kills and 122 digs to do the same.
