Rebels Ink Tennessee Standout Lauren Bars

OXFORD, Miss. â€" As Ole Miss volleyball looks ahead to life without senior setter Aubrey Edie, head coach Steven McRoberts announced the addition of Tennessee native Lauren Bars, a 6-2 setter, who will join the program for the 2017 season.
Bars, who hails from Nashville, Tennessee, was named a Senior Ace by PrepVolleyball.com. She earned All-State honors in 2014 and 2015 and All-Region honors in 2014, 2015 and 2016. Bars was also named All-Region MVP.
"When we were able to go watch her play, we loved her size," McRoberts said. "She has great hands, a great attitude and comes from a very athletic family. We look for her to come in and push for playing time. Lauren can fit into a couple of different systems. She is getting better every season and someone that will impress a lot of people when they see her skill set."
In addition, Bars was named to the Under Armour All-American Watch List and a Gatorade Player of the Year nominee. As the team captain, Bars helped lead Harpeth Hall High School to a third-place finish at the Tennessee State Championships.
As a member of Alliance Volleyball Club, Bars was named an AVCA Phenom and helped AVC win the Southern Region League Championship in 2015 and 2016 and the AAU Regional Championship in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
Bars comes from a long line of athletic talent. All three of Bars' brothers played college football, one at Penn State, another at Michigan and the third is a redshirt sophomore at Notre Dame. Her father also played college football at Notre Dame and her mom was a swimmer at Michigan State. Her grandfather played baseball for the Brooklyn Dodgers.
Bars will be a fantastic addition to the program, but the season isn't over yet. The Rebels host Tennessee in the annual Kids Day Game Friday at 11 a.m. at The Pavilion at Ole Miss, before welcoming No. 24 Kentucky Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
