OXFORD, Miss.--Five members of the Ole Miss rifle team shot in the Mississippi Junior Olympics yesterday, at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center. The state match is the qualifier for the National Junior Olympics to be held at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado in April 2017.

Ole Miss freshman Jillian Tyler won the Mississippi State Junior Olympics women's smallbore rifle championship with a 562 score and placed second in air rifle with a 388. As state champions, Tyler receive an automatic invitation to Nationals.

Sophomore Harley Gardner turned in a 579 smallbore score. However, being a Texas resident, Gardner was not eligible for the Mississippi title, but did earn an At-Large invitation to Nationals.

The remaining three shooters, Alana Kelly, Hayley Carroll and Samantha Sandifer will be looking for At-Large invitations, that will be issued on a space available basis at the conclusion of all state competitions.

"I am hopeful that the other Ole Miss shooters who competed today will also be invited to Nationals," Beasley said. "Their scores are not want we hoped, but based on recent history, I think each has a chance of qualifying for Nationals."

The Rebels will return to action January 14th to take on Kentucky and Murray State.
