Rifle Shoots Season-High in Smallbore at GARC

OXFORD, Miss. - The No. 15 ranked Ole Miss rifle team shot a season-best 2297 in smallbore on the second day of the Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) Championships at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center to finish sixth in the team smallbore standings.
West Virginia, led by individual champion Ginny Thrasher, took the team smallbore title with a 2335 followed by Kentucky (2314) and Army (2310). The Rebels finished just four shots out of a top-five finish.
Sophomore Jessica Haig fired a season-high 576 to lead the Rebels. Freshman Allison Villa shot a personal best 574 in the first relay of the day. In the last relay, Alison Weisz scored a 574 as well. Freshman Harley Gardner posted a 573 to round out the scoring for the Rebels.
"We are happy that we shot a season-best today and came very close to finishing in the top five," head coach Valerie Boothe said. "In the second half of the season, we have worked tirelessly to improve our smallbore scores, and it finally paid off. We are looking forward to air rifle tomorrow and finishing the championships on a strong note."
