Game Notes - vs. Vanderbilt - Game 30 - SEC Tournament
The Rebels earned the No. 14 seed for this week's SEC Tournament and will take on No. 11 seed Vanderbilt in the opening round of the 2016 SEC Tournament in Jacksonville, Florida at Veterans Memorial Arena. The game will air on SEC Network with Paul Sunderland and Carolyn Peck on the call. 1. Ole Miss dropped a 60-49 contest to Arkansas in Fayetteville on Sunday afternoon. Shandricka Sessom led the Rebels with a game-high 19 points, while Madinah Muhammad posted 14 points in the loss for her 11th game in double figures. Shequila Joseph added 10 rebounds, tying her career-high.
2. For the second time in her career, Shequila Joseph posted double-figure rebounds with 10 against Arkansas. Joseph also posted 10 rebounds against Missouri State this season and has grabbed more than five rebounds on eight occasions this season.
3. Ole Miss enters the SEC Tournament looking to stop its current 10-game skid and advance to the second round for the second time in the last three years. Ole Miss last won and SEC Tournament game in 2014 with a 63-62 thriller over Arkansas.
4. Ole Miss is arguably the youngest team in the SEC this season. Ole Miss has 11 players on the roster and eight of those players are freshmen or sophomores. The Rebels are the lone team in the SEC without a senior and Ole Miss has only two players who have been in the program for more than two years in Shequila Joseph and Bretta Hart.
5. Ole Miss and Vanderbilt will be meeting in the first round of the SEC Tournament for the first time in Wednesday's matchup. Vanderbilt leads the series in the SEC Tournament, 4-0, but this will be the first meeting for the teams in the tournament since 1998.
Ole Miss vs. Vanderbilt Notables
-Vanderbilt leads the all-time series 29-16 but Ole Miss won the only meeting between the teams this season, 55-52, in a thriller in the final game at Tad Smith Coliseum, which snapped Vanderbilt's six-game win streak in the series. This will be the first meeting between the teams in the SEC Tournament since 1998 although Vanderbilt does lead 5-0 in neutral site meetings.
-Vanderbilt assistant Kim Rosamond is a former Ole Miss player and assistant coach. Rosamond played at Ole Miss from 1995-98 before moving into an assistant coaches role in which she served from 1998-2003.
A Win Would
-Snap Ole Miss' current 10-game skid and give the Rebels their first win since Jan. 21, when they knocked off then-No 9 Kentucky in Oxford. It would also be Ole Miss second SEC Tournament win in the Matt Insell era.
-Move the Rebels five wins way from the 800th victory in program history. Ole Miss' current record is 794-492. The earliest Ole Miss could hit the 800th win would be the finals the SEC Tournament. Ole Miss would become the sixth SEC program to record 800 wins.
Rebels By The Numbers
3- Number of ranked opponents Ole Miss has defeated under the direction of Matt Insell and staff. The win over the No. 9 ranked Wildcats on Jan. 21 was the highest ranked opponent Ole Miss has defeated in the last six years.
10-Number of consecutive games Ole Miss has dropped. The 10 games is currently the third longest losing streak in program history and the longest of the Matt Insell era. The longest streak in program history is 12 games in 2011-12.
11-Number of times freshman Madinah Muhammad has reached double figures in 2015-16. Her 11 games in double figures are the most for an Ole Miss freshman and feature a pair of 20-point outings against Texas A&M and South Carolina. She is averaging 8.4 ppg against SEC foes.
12-Number of points the Rebels came back from in their SEC opening win over Vanderbilt. Ole Miss trailed by 12 with 7:03 left in the fourth quarter and closed the game on a 20-5 run to record their first come-from-behind win of the season and second of the Matt Insell era.
26- Number of points Shandricka Sessom scored against South Carolina. Sessom's 26 points are the most an individual has scored against the Gamecocks all year and she is one of just eight players to hit the 20- point mark against South Carolina all season.
Scouting Vanderbilt
Vanderbilt enters Wednesday's game with a 15-13, 5-11 SEC record after defeating No. 24 Missouri, 56-52, on Sunday in Columbia, Missouri. The win snapped an eight-game losing streak for the Commodores. Christa Reed is the lone Commodore in double figures with 11.1 points per game. Rachel Bell and Rebekah Dahlman are nearing double digits with 9.3 and 9.0 points per game, respectively. Marqu'es Webb leads the efforts on the glass with a team-best 5.6 rebounds per game. As a team, Vanderbilt is scoring 63.0 points per game and grabbing 32.4 rebounds per game.
About Ole Miss
Sophomore Shandricka Sessom continues to lead the Ole Miss offense with 15.6 points per game and has reached double figures in 24 of 29 games this season. Her 15.6 points currently ranks No. 6 in the SEC. Erika Sisk is approaching double figures with 7.9 points per game. In SEC action, Sessom is leading the team with 13.3 points per game. Madinah Muhammad has stepped her game up in SEC play with 8.4 points per game while A'Queen Hayes leads the rebounding efforts with 5.9 rebounds per game against SEC competition. As a team, Ole Miss is averaging 65.9 points per game and grabbing 39.2 rebounds per game.
