Rebels Drop 4-3 Match at No. 21 Arkansas
3/27/2016 | Men's Tennis
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Ole Miss men's tennis team won the doubles point for the 10th time this year, but could not hold the momentum in singles, falling 4-3 at No. 21 Arkansas Sunday at the Dills Indoor Tennis Center.
The Rebels gained the early momentum as Grey Hamilton and Fabian Fallert won 6-2 at No. 2 doubles and then Gustav Hansson and Stefan Lindmark clinched the point with a 7-5 win at No. 3.
Despite a big win from Hansson in his first ever match at No. 1 singles, and another win from Hamilton at No. 5 singles, it would not be enough.
Arkansas took away the early momentum from the Rebels by winning five first sets in singles. They tied the match with a win at No. 6 singles and then took the lead for good with a straight-set victory on court four.
The Razorbacks increased their lead to 3-1 with a straight set win on court two and then closed out the match in three sets on court three.

Quoting Head Coach Toby Hansson…
"Overall, we played well and competed hard, especially in the doubles. It was a very close match that could have gone either way. Small margins make the difference and we didn't get the breaks that we needed on a couple of courts. Arkansas is tough to beat at their place and they played well."
On singles play…
"Big win for Gus, he played really well against one of the top players in the country. Grey did a great job getting the first set and finishing off another win. Stefan had a chance to get the first set and Filip had break point opportunities in his first set. He did a solid job battling back to get to a third set. If we had been able to capitalize on those chances, we could have made it a lot closer in the end and given ourselves a real opportunity to win."
On returning home and getting over the hump…
"It's been a tough stretch, but we played much better today than we did in our last two matches. We are looking forward to returning home and playing in front of our fans. We will keep working hard in practice, and I know we will turn it around. We encourage everyone to come out Friday as we battle Mississippi State."
Up next...
The Rebels return home to host Mississippi State Friday at 5 p.m., followed by Alabama next Sunday at 1 p.m. Fans will enjoy free crawfish at the match on Friday.
