OXFORD, Miss. - Football isn't the only sport holding spring practice. The Ole Miss volleyball team is busy most mornings before class practicing at the Gillom Sports Center in preparation for the 2016 season.

The Rebels begin spring play this weekend at the Chattanooga Tournament in Chattanooga, Tennessee. They will face Chattanooga at 9:30 a.m., Saturday followed by West Florida at 10:40 a.m. and Tennessee Tech at 1:15 p.m.

"We've been getting accomplished what we wanted to this spring with a big emphasis on ball control and defense," head coach Steven McRoberts said. "Those were some things we struggled with last season. We've taken our time in training this spring and done a lot of position type work. Recently, we started getting more into our team work as we approach competition."

With 11 players returning from the 2015 season, McRoberts says he has seen improvement across the board, but did note a couple players as it relates to some of the areas the team is looking to improve upon in 2016.

"With the emphasis on ball control, we've been really pleased with Caroline Adams and Taylor Gill in the last couple of weeks, their effort and overall play," he said. "Kate (Gibson) has done a nice job. We are changing the tempo of our outside sets some, and she's doing well with that and been open to making changes. But as a whole, all the players have shown a willingness to get better."

There is plenty to be excited about concerning the program, as updates to the Gillom Sports Center are forthcoming, and the team will welcome six freshmen in July.

"The dynamic of this team will change so much in July when the freshmen get here," McRoberts said. "That's why we've been focusing on individuals more. The spring is about individually getting better so that when we come together in the fall it makes us as a group better."

The Rebels will continue spring competition at Central Arkansas on April 10. Fans can check out the team on April 16, as the Rebels host Missouri State at Noon. The match will be played at the Gillom Sports Center and admission is free.
