Ole Miss Takes Two from Arkansas State

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's tennis team picked up two wins against Arkansas State on a beautiful day at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center Tuesday.

In the first match, the Rebels took the doubles point with wins on courts two and one. Zalina Khairudinova and Marija Milutinovic won 6-1 at two and then Natalie Suk and Allie Sanford posted a 6-4 win at No. 1 to clinch the point.

The Rebels picked up straight set wins at two, three and one in singles to close out the first match. Senior Mai El Kamash won her match 6-2, 6-0, freshman Tea Jandric returned to the singles lineup, and won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3.

Sophomore Arianne Hartono moved up to No. 22 in the singles rankings Tuesday and downed her opponent 6-2, 6-1 on court one to close out the Red Wolves.

The second match began with singles, and the Rebels got wins from Suke at two, Brooke Stevens at six, Khairudinova at three and Sanford at four to finish off ASU 4-0.

Notables…
• The Rebels improved to 11-9 overall.
• Arianne Hartono improved to 20-9 overall, 13-3 at No. 1 singles.
• Zalina Khairudinova improved to 15-9 overall, 8-6 in dual matches.
• Zalina Khairudinova and Marija Milutinovic improved to 7-3.

Quoting Head Coach Mark Beyers…
"They took care of business pretty quickly, and that's what you want. You want them to stay focused get a win and get ready for the next match. We accomplished what we needed to do today. Now we move on and try to win a couple of matches on the road in the SEC this weekend."

Ole Miss returns to SEC play this weekend, traveling to face Arkansas Thursday and Missouri Saturday.
