OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's tennis team is in Baton Rouge, Louisiana this week for the SEC Championship. The Rebels earned the No. 12 seed and will face the No. 13 seed, Tennessee, in first round Wednesday at 10 a.m.
Matches will take place at the LSU Tennis Complex.
Last time out…
Ole Miss went 4-1 last week to close out the regular season. The Rebels defeated Arkansas State twice by a 4-0 score and then won at Arkansas 4-2 before dropping a 4-3 decision at Missouri.
Scouting Tennessee…
Tennessee finished the regular season 8-15 overall, 1-11 in the SEC. They lost to South Carolina 7-0 in their final match last Sunday. The Volunteers are led by No. 66 Sadie Hammond at No. 1 singles. Hammond owns an 8-12 record at No. 1 singles.
Rebels vs. Volunteers…
The Rebels have won three in a row against Tennessee, including a 4-1 decision on March 6 of this year. Ole Miss took the doubles point and the picked up singles wins from Tea Jandric, Zalina Khairudinova and Mai El Kamash.
Winner gets…
The winner of the Ole Miss/Tennessee match faces the No. 5 seed, South Carolina, Thursday at 10 a.m.
National Rankings…
In the latest Oracle/ITA Rankings, the Rebels are ranked No. 40. Sophomore Arianne Hartono is ranked No. 29 in singles. Hartono is 20-11 overall, 13-5 at No. 1 Singles. Natalie Suk is ranked No. 84 and Mai El Kamash is ranked No. 103. Hartono and El Kamash are ranked No. 27 in doubles.
Robbins named to SEC Community Service Team…
Senior Allie Robbins was named to the SEC Community Service Team Tuesday. Participated in the South Carolina Drive for flood disaster relief and ran in the St. Jude Marathon in honor of a former professor's granddaughter.
