OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss volleyball senior outside hitter Melanie Crow and senior setter Aubrey Edie have been selected to train and compete with the U.S. Collegiate National Team program, USA Volleyball announced Friday.
Crow (Wildwood, Missouri) and Edie (Fayetteville, Arkansas) are among 36 athletes selected by USA Volleyball to participate in the U.S. Collegiate National Team (CNT) program that will train and compete in conjunction with the USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships from June 26-29 in Indianapolis.
"We are proud of Aubrey and Mel," head coach Steven McRoberts said. "It's an honor for them to be selected to this team and for them to be chosen multiple times says a lot about their ability as players."
Athletes participating on the U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team were selected from the U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryouts held Feb. 19-21 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The program will begin with a training session before the group is divided into three equal teams. The teams will then compete in a round-robin event the final three days in Indianapolis.
The Rebels have had a player make the Collegiate National Team every year under McRoberts. This is the second straight year for Crow to make the team and the second time for Edie, who made the team in 2014, but wasn't able to compete in the tryouts last year due to illness.
Crow missed the majority of the 2015 season due to injury and has applied for a medical redshirt. In 2014, Crow set the school record for aces in a season (42) and finished second for kills in a season with 352.
This past season, Edie helped lead the Rebels to consecutive 20-win seasons for the first time in three decades and a school-record 13 home wins. With 3,527 assists Edie will enter her final campaign needing just 275 assists to set the school record.
