OXFORD, Miss. - The future for Ole Miss volleyball just got a little brighter, as incoming freshman Nicole Purcell was named a PrepVolleyball.com Defensive Dandy Lion.

The players selected to this list are all-around high school or club talents who project to be standouts in college on the back row.

Purcell, a native of Leawood, Kansas, is the quintessential do-it-all type of player who will be a libero in college. The First Team All-State pick led her high school, Bishop Miege, in assists (685) and digs (285) and was second in kills (287) and aces (80).

A four-year starter and three-time state champion, Purcell also earned PrepVolleyball.com All-American honorable mention honors last fall. This spring, she helped lead KC Power to a berth in the Girls Junior 18 Open National Championship in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

"Nicole is good on serve receive, and she's great at reading and anticipating the defense," said head coach Steven McRoberts after Purcell signed last November. "When you watch Nicole play you can see her hustle and her spirit. She's another freshmen coming in that's going to push for playing time."
