OXFORD, Miss. - A record crowd of approximately 7,000 fans packed the Manning Center Saturday for Meet the Rebels Day. Fans lined up hours before the doors opened for the opportunity to meet and get autographs from their favorite players and coaches.

Fans mingled with players and coaches from the preseason nationally ranked football team, as well as the volleyball and rifle teams. Members of the cheerleading and Rebelette squads also visited with fans during the event. The soccer team was scheduled to be in attendance too, but Friday night's exhibition match at SMU got postponed to Saturday due to inclement weather. The Rebels won 2-0.

In addition to meeting players and coaches from the various fall sports, fans were treated to children's games, food, giveaways and merchandise during the two hours.

Soccer head coach Matt Mott and the No. 22 ranked Rebels officially kick off the 2016-17 athletics season for Ole Miss Aug. 19 at 6 p.m., hosting Louisiana-Lafayette.

Volleyball starts its third season under head coach Steven McRoberts Aug. 26 at the North Dakota Tournament, but fans are invited to attend the team's Red/Blue Scrimmage Aug. 17 at 7 p.m., at The Pavilion. All home matches this year will be played at the Pavilion while the Gillom Sports Center undergoes renovation.

Football kicks off season five of the Hugh Freeze era Sept. 5 in a huge match-up against Florida State in Orlando at 7 p.m.

Rifle hosts Memphis Sept. 21 in their season opener under first-year head coach Marsha Beasley.
