Three Rebels Named to UND Classic All-Tournament Team

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Following the North Dakota Classic, several Ole Miss volleyball players were honored with selection to the All-Tournament Team after the Rebels captured their ninth straight regular season tournament title under head coach Steven McRoberts.
Junior outside hitter Kate Gibson (Sedalia, Colorado) earned Most Valuable Player honors, while fellow junior outside hitter Lexi Thompson (Riverview, Florida) and freshman defensive specialist Nicole Purcell (Leawood, Kansas) joined her on the all-tournament team.
Gibson finished the weekend averaging 4.15 kills and 2.46 digs per set. She set a single match record with a career-high 27 kills in the 3-2 win at UND, as the Rebels totaled a single match record of 80 kills. She also had 9 digs and 3 assists against UND. In the other two matches, Gibson recorded a double-double of 15 kills and 10 digs in a 3-1 win vs. UC Davis and posted a double-double of 12 kills and 13 digs in the 3-1 win vs. Omaha to close out the tournament.
Thompson averaged 3 kills and 3.08 digs per set to help lead the Rebels to the title. She recorded a double-double of 13 kills and 12 digs in the 3-1 win vs. UC Davis and also had 3 assists, 1 service ace and a block assist. Thompson posted 19 kills and 12 digs in the 3-2 win against North Dakota and added 2 blocks and 1 service ace.
Purcell in her debut for the Rebels, averaged 4.46 digs per match. She notched a career-high 26 digs against North Dakota, after posting 13 in the opening match against UC Davis. Purcell finished the weekend with 19 against Omaha.
Ole Miss hosts the Rebel Classic Sept. 2-3 at The Pavilion at Ole Miss. The Rebels will face UT-Arlington in their first match of the tournament Sept. 2 at 6 p.m.
