Gibson Named SEC Player of the Week

OXFORD, Miss. - Following an outstanding performance at the North Dakota Classic this past weekend, Ole Miss volleyball junior outside hitter Kate Gibson (Sedalia, Colorado) has been named the SEC Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

This marks the first SEC weekly honor for Gibson, who earned Most Valuable Player honors last weekend, helping lead the Rebels to their ninth straight regular season tournament title under head coach Steven McRoberts.

Gibson finished the weekend averaging 4.15 kills and 2.46 digs per set. She set a single match record with a career-high 27 kills in the 3-2 win at UND, as the Rebels totaled a single match record of 80 kills. She also had 9 digs and 3 assists against UND. In the other two matches, Gibson recorded a double-double of 15 kills and 10 digs in 3-1 win vs. UC Davis and posted a double-double of 12 kills and 13 digs in the 3-1 win vs. Omaha to close out the tournament.

Ole Miss hosts the Rebel Classic Sept. 2-3 at The Pavilion at Ole Miss. The Rebels will face UT-Arlington in their first match of the tournament Sept. 2 at 6 p.m.
