Claremont Futures Singles Draw
CLAREMONT, Calif. - Ole Miss men's tennis junior Gustav Hansson advanced to the main draw of singles at the Claremont Futures Monday with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Farzin Adanny Amiri of the United States at the Claremont Club.
Hansson was one of four Rebels competing in the Claremont Futures qualifying tournament this past weekend. He won a total of four matches without dropping a set to advance to the main draw.
"Gus is playing some high level tennis," said assistant coach Devin Britton, who is in California with Hansson. "He has put in a lot of work preparing this fall, and for him to advance through the qualifying of this level event so comfortably is great to see. I am really looking forward to seeing him battle in the main draw against some great competition."
In the first round, Hansson defeated Joshua Page, a senior at the University of San Diego 6-3, 6-4. He followed that up with a 6-1, 6-3 win against the No. 4 seed, Courtney John Lock, who plays for UNLV and owns an ATP singles ranking of 1617 and a doubles ranking of 643. Hansson then took out last year's Big West Conference Player of the Year, Alec Adamson (UC Davis), 6-4, 6-3, in the third round Sunday.
Hansson will face Shahin Khaledan of Iran in the first round of main draw Tuesday not before 1 p.m. CT.
Senior Ricardo Jorge and sophomore Filip Kraljevic reached the second round of qualifying, while freshman Tim Sandkaulen made the third round.
