Steven McRoberts Weekly Press Conference
9/26/2016 | Volleyball
Ole Miss volleyball head coach Steven McRoberts met with members of the media on Monday as part of his weekly press conference. Coach McRoberts discussed the Rebels' opening weekend of Southeastern Conference play.
Opening statementโฆ
"Definitely not the weekend that we were hoping for. Looking at it, possibly the toughest opening weekend that anyone played, both from a competition standpoint and a little bit from an emotional standpoint."
On Floridaโฆ
"Like I said last week, I thought looking at tape on Florida that we would have some opportunities if we played well and we came out playing really well. Possibly, that first set was as well as we've played all season and maybe even in the three years that I have been here; just back and forth toe-to-toe with them. Both teams playing very physical and we won a two-point set. One thing with the culture of our program that we are working on is not getting too high over winning emotionally against a team like Florida and I felt like we did that and we kind of checked out in sets two and three. Then set four was really a competitive set, you look at the score and it doesn't look that way, but we made a lot of errors to allow them to pull away. I was proud of our effort, just not real proud of our execution."
On Missouriโฆ
"After the Florida match, we had to turn around and travel to Missouri who is playing really well right now and we haven't played well at their place. We controlled every set 0-20, and then we just made too many errors when we got in the 20's. It was disappointing. I felt like we definitely could have come away with a victory there. To lose every set, I think sets one and three by two points and set two by three points. Again, just service errors, hitting errors, some things that we know that we can fix. I told the team afterwards that I was really proud of the way that we played and, of course, I am disappointed with a loss; we never want to be happy when we lose, but definitely the best we've ever played at Missouri the three years that I have been there. If we can continue to play the way that we played this weekend against the rest of the league, we are going to get a lot of wins."
On upcoming scheduleโฆ
"We have a full week to prepare for Arkansas, they are our only match this weekend, Sunday at home. Then we turn around and play Wednesday and Sunday the next week, so we are home for two weeks which is nice. That doesn't happen very often when you get into conference play. We've got a lot of time on the court to work on things and get better."
