OXFORD, Miss. - Six members of the Ole Miss rifle team will travel to Palmyra, Pennsylvania to compete in the Palmyra Invitational against No. 15 Navy. The first meeting of the two teams this season will take place on Jan. 28, beginning at 11 a.m. CT. While the Rebels will only battle against Navy, the tournament will host around 275 competitors who shoot over three weekends.

Noting the Rebels Last Match

The Rebels may be coming off a heartbreaking loss to NC State (4658-4653), but the addition of several personal bests will be used to fuel their fire to future success.

Senior Alison Weisz currently leads the Rebels in 2017 with the highest aggregate score of 1173, a result of her 596 in air rifle (the second highest score in school history), and a 577 in the smallbore competition. Junior Jessica Haig follows just one point behind Weisz, holding a new personal best and the second highest aggregate score on the team of 1172, a result of her 578 smallbore score and 594 air rifle score. Sophomore Samantha Sandifer and junior Kristyn Trump did not contribute to the team's overall performance last weekend, but posted new personal best aggregate scores.

Matchup with Navy

Ole Miss Rifle has faced Navy head-to-head the past four years with the highest score being a 4631 aggregate in the win last season. The Rebels totaled 2290 in smallbore and a 2341 in air rifle to beat Navy.

Navy Rifle currently holds an aggregate season high of 4651 when they posted a 2340 in air rifle and 2311 in smallbore against West Virginia last Friday. They will face the Rebels after a loss to Nebraska (4677-4629), falling in both smallbore and air rifle. Navy's roster includes four freshmen, three sophomores, one junior and two seniors. They are led by senior Daniel Jonas who posted a career and team-high aggregate of 1169 against Memphis during the fall season.

Marsha's Minute

"The format will be a bit different for us - start times are several hours later than we are used to and some of the team members will be shooting the air rifle event prior to smallbore," Beasley said. "We need to compete at different locations and learn to do well regardless of the conditions. This will be good experience as we prepare for the GARC Conference Championships."
