Machalova Reaches Qualifying at All-American

LOS ANGELES - Ole Miss women's tennis freshman Sabina Machalova is ranked the No. 5 newcomer in the nation and this weekend she showed why, advancing to the qualifying round of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships at Pepperdine University.
In the first round, Machalova defeated Katarina Stresnakova of Oklahoma State in three sets, 6-1, 0-6, 6-2. Machalova only needed two sets, 7-6(6), 6-3 to beat Ellyse Hamlin of Duke to advance to the final round. In the final round, Machalova ousted Meghan Kelley of Virginia 6-3, 6-3.

• Junior Tea Jandric went 1-1 beating Georgia's Laura Patterson in three sets before dropping a tight match to Sabrina Federici of Texas Tech in the second round.
• Sophomore Anna Vrbenska, seeded No. 6, fell to Harvard's Erica Oosterhaut in three sets.

Up next…
Machalova joins senior Natalie Suk in qualifying singles, which begins Tuesday. They will also team up in qualifying doubles. Both are seeking to join Arianne Hartono in the main draw, which begins Thursday. Hartono is also in main draw doubles with Alexa Bortles.
