LSU Week for Ole Miss Starts with Volleyball

OXFORD, Miss. - It's LSU week, and the Ole Miss volleyball team kicks off the festivities Wednesday in Baton Rouge with a nationally-televised match against the Tigers from the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

The Rebels and Tigers will square off at 8 p.m. on ESPNU with Cara Capuano and Bailey Webster on the call.
Quick hits…
• Ole Miss split a pair of matches last weekend, falling to No. 1 Florida and then beating South Carolina 3-0 on the road to improve to 13-8 overall and 4-4 in the SEC.
• Sunday's win against South Carolina marked the Rebels' first in Columbia since 2012.
• The Rebels have now won three in a row and five of the last six meetings against the Gamecocks.
• The Rebels have posted seven shutouts this year.
• Senior Lexi Thompson recorded a match-high 16 kills on a .333 clip to lead the Rebels.
• Senior Kate Gibson posted her SEC-leading 14th double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs. She also had two service aces and two blocks.
• Freshman Lauren Bars tallied 22 assists and also threw in two kills and two service aces.
• Freshman middle blocker Bayleigh Scott added 6 kills on a .364 attack percentage and had 5 blocks.
• The Rebels hit .257 and held South Carolina to .168.
• Junior libero Caroline Adams posted 25 digs on the weekend, and with 790 career digs, moved into the top 10 in the rally era.
• In this week's RPI, the Rebels are No. 53, while their next opponent, LSU, is No. 32.
Scouting LSU…
Beating Alabama for the first time since 2013 LSU comes into Wednesday's match at 15-4 overall, 6-2 in the SEC. Their only two losses in SEC play are against No. 4 Florida and No. 6 Kentucky. The Tigers remained unbeaten at home with the 3-1 win against Alabama. The Tigers are led by SEC Freshman of the Week Taylor Bannister, who finished with 21 kills against Bama and is averaging 3.38 per set. Sophomore Milan Stokes had a career high 19 kills in the match on a .417 hitting percentage. Freshmen Raigen Cianciulli also had a career high 28 digs against the Tide.
Rebels vs. Tigers…
LSU leads the all-time series 53-17. The two teams split a pair of matches last year with the Tigers rallying for a 3-2 win in Oxford and then the Rebels taking a 3-1 victory in Baton Rouge.
Last meeting…
After dropping the first set on LSU's home floor, the Rebels rallied to tame the Tigers 3-1 (14-25, 25-16, 25-17, 25-17) at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center last year. Senior Kate Gibson recorded her 11th double-double of the season with 11 kills and 14 digs. Senior Lexi Thompson missed her 16th double-double by one dig, as she finished with 14 kills and 9 digs. She also chipped in two assists, two service aces and two blocks. Sophomore Nayo Warnell tallied six kills on a .357 clip and added seven blocks. Louisiana native Caroline Adams posted 22 digs in the win.
Home Sweet Louisiana…
Junior libero Caroline Adams hails from Lafayette, Louisiana. This is the second trip home for her since she joined the program. Playing in front of family and friends last year, Adams tallied 22 digs as the Rebels finished with 72 in the win.

Following the LSU match, the Rebels will return home before heading out to College Station, Texas this weekend to face Texas A&M Sunday.
