Rebels Rebound in Round 2 of Marquette Intercollegiate

Milwaukee, Wis.-The Ole Miss men's golf team found a rhythm on the second day of the Marquette Intercollegiate, as they carded the fourth-best score of the day, to move up five places on the leaderboard.
After battling windy conditions in Round 1, resulting in a 20-over score (308), the Rebels rebounded to post only 3-over (291) in the second round. Ole Miss dominated the par-5s to land a spot in the top 10 of the tournament heading into the final round. After marking 1-under on the day, No. 1 Texas A&M moved up three places to grab the lead.
Junior Braden Thornberry led the Rebels for the second day in a row as he carded four birdies in the first 10 holes en route to shooting 2-under par (70). This score was one stroke under his score posted in the first round, placing him in a two-way tie for second place alongside Harry Ellis of Florida State. Austin Kendziorski of the host team, Marquette, currently holds the top spot after turning in a 67 for the opening round and even par (72) in Round 2.
Junior Josh Seiple followed behind Thornberry, as he too found improvement in his second round. After a difficult Round 1 (78), Seiple was able to turn in a 1-under par 71 today, the result of three birdies on his back 9, placing him in a seven-way tie for 20th going into tomorrow.
Junior Beau Briggs and freshman Cecil Wegener both carded 3-over par 75s after finding one birdie each on the front 9, and Briggs worked three more to close out the round. Wegener will enter the final round in a six-way tie for 53rd and Briggs in a four-way tie for 59th.
Competing as an individual, sophomore Brody Blackmon recorded five birdies over his round, with four of them coming in the front 9. He carded a 2-over 74 in Round 1, followed by a 4-over 76 in Round 2 and will enter tomorrow in a 16-way tie for 27th.
Ole Miss will compete in the final round of the Marquette Intercollegiate at Erin Hills beginning tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. CT.
