Volleyball to Host NIVC First and Second Rounds

OXFORD, Miss. â€" For the first time since 2010, the Ole Miss volleyball team is back in postseason play, earning a berth in the National Invitational Volleyball Championships. The Rebels will host the first two rounds Wednesday and Thursday at the Gillom Athletics Performance Center.
Ole Miss (17-14) will face Southland Conference regular season champion, Stephen F. Austin (26-7), Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the first round. SIUE (23-6), the automatic qualifier from the Ohio Valley Conference, will face Arkansas State (20-11), an at-large qualifier from the Sunbelt Conference, in the first match of the day at 3 p.m. The winners will square off in the second round Thursday at 6 p.m.
"Our team is really excited to get the opportunity to play more volleyball," head coach Steven McRoberts said. "We are thankful we get to host three good programs at our facility this Wednesday and Thursday. We need our fans to come out and be loud like they have been all year."
The Rebels made back-to-back NCAA appearances in 2006-07 and again in 2010. Ole Miss concluded the regular season with a 3-1 win against South Carolina and posted their fourth consecutive winning season for the first time in three decades.
Joining the Rebels in the NIVC from the SEC is Georgia, while Kentucky, Florida, Missouri and LSU earned NCAA bids.
Tickets are $5 and will be available for purchase on the day of the matches at the Gillom Athletics Performance Center.
The NIVC will be an annual tournament involving 32 of the nation's top women's Division I volleyball teams. All matches, including the semifinals and championship, are hosted by participating schools. Every round is single elimination. The Postseason NIVC features 16 first-round games, followed by eight second-round games, four third-round games, two semifinal games and the championship.
