Texas A&M: Live Video/Scoring | LSU: Live Scoring
OXFORD, Miss. - Coming off a huge victory at Mississippi State last Sunday, the Ole Miss men's tennis team looks for another signature win this weekend as they travel to No. 7 Texas A&M Friday and then finish the weekend at LSU on Sunday.
Last time out...
In their last action, Ole Miss defeated arch-rival and No. 15 Mississippi State 4-2 to cap a perfect weekend. The Rebels won a tight doubles point and then State won singles at both courts five and one to take a 2-1 lead. Junior Grey Hamilton tied the match with a straight set win on court six. Freshman Tim Sandkaulen won a huge tiebreaker in the first set at No. 3 singles and then took the second to make it 3-2 Rebels. With two matches remaining, senior Ricardo Jorge saved three break points at 5-5 in the third at No. 2 singles and then broke to clinch the victory.
What to watch for...
This will be the second meeting between Ole Miss and Texas A&M this season. The Rebels topped the Aggies 4-3 earlier this year at the ITA Kick-Off in College Station. The only match that will resemble the last one individually will be No. 38 Gustav Hansson vs. No. 12 Arthur Rinderknech at No. 1 singles. The rest of the individual matchups will be different in both doubles and singles.
Scouting Texas A&M...
Texas A&M enters the match with a 14-4 overall record, 7-0 in the SEC. They had their 13-match win streak snapped Monday night at No. 19 TCU, 4-3. The Aggies are led by No. 12 Arthur Rinderknech, who owns a 10-14 overall record, 2-5 in the SEC.
Rebels vs. Aggies...
Ole Miss picked up its first win against Texas A&M since 2014 when they knocked off the Aggies 4-3 in the consolation match at the ITA Kick-Off in College Station on Jan. 29.
Scouting LSU...
LSU enters the weekend with a 5-13 overall record, 1-6 in the SEC. They are coming off a 5-2 loss to Texas A&M last Saturday. The Tigers are led by No. 44 Jordan Daigle and No. 56 Justin Butsch at the top of their lineup. Daigle is 9-3 at No. 1 singles as is Butsch at No. 2 singles.
Rebels vs. Tigers...
LSU leads the all-time series, but the Rebels have won two straight, including last year's 4-1 win in Oxford. The last time the two teams met in Baton Rouge (2015), the Rebels rallied for a 4-3 win.
Rebels in the Rankings...
The Rebels were the mover of the week in the Oracle/ITA Rankings, moving up to No. 31 after two consecutive wins, including No. 15 Mississippi State. Gustav Hansson is ranked No. 38 in singles, while Fabian Fallert and Grey Hamilton are ranked No. 13 in doubles.
Thoughts from head coach Toby Hansson...
"The guys are inspired by their recent wins and are hungry to get back out there and compete for the Rebels again this weekend. We got a taste of success last week and I know the guys are hungry for more. We are looking forward to the challenges that Texas A&M and LSU present."
