Volleyball Adds Transfer Caitlin Wernentin

OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss volleyball got a little deeper at the pin position, with the addition of outside hitter Caitlin Wernentin (Bettendorf, Iowa) to the program (joining four other outsides), head coach Steven McRoberts announced Tuesday.
Wernentin comes to the Rebels from UNLV, where she spent the 2015 and 2016 seasons. She will have two years of eligibility remaining.
After playing in three matches as a freshman in 2014, Wernentin missed the remainder of the season with an injury and received a medical redshirt. In 2015 she played in 18 matches and then last year played in 25, finishing with 116 kills on a .208 attack percentage to help lead the Rebels to a 24-8 overall record and the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
"For us to add another quality transfer like Caitlin is huge," McRoberts said. "She will immediately push our pin hitters and she gives us some much needed depth. Caitlin has played in some big matches and brings NCAA tournament experience to our program, which will go a long way in helping our team achieve that goal."
Prior to collegiate ball, Wernentin helped Bettendorf High School win back-to-back 5A State Championships in 2012 and 2013 and earned 2012 and 2013 Iowa All-State Second Team and All-Tournament Team honors. She was chosen as the all-state team's team captain in 2012. In addition, Wernentin finished her high school career ranked first in kills and matches played at BHS.
A communications major, Wernentin was a two-time member of the Fall Academic All-Mountain West Team and will look to be a contributor both on the court and in the classroom.
