OXFORD, Miss. -- Defensive specialist Barrett Guttell is the newest member of the Ole Miss volleyball family, as she signed to join the Rebels in the fall of 2017, head coach Steven McRoberts announced Thursday.
Guttell, a native of Austin, Texas, lettered four years at St. Andrews Episcopal School where she earned Southwest Preparatory Conference All-State, SPC All-Region and SPC All-Zone honors. She was also named to the SPC All-Tournament Team. Guttell finished her career with 1,458 digs, an average of 4.7 digs per set.
"Barrett came to the very first camp that we ran at Ole Miss and she immediately stood out with her energy and enthusiasm," McRoberts said. "She has told me how much she loved Ole Miss from day one and she is exactly what our program is looking for when it comes to that. I have loved watching her grow as a player over the past three years and our staff is ready to get her here and competing with our other defensive specialists."
Guttell played club volleyball for Austin Performance Volleyball, helping them to a Gold Bracket finish at the Tour of Texas in 2016, second at the Lone Star Qualifier in 2015 and third at the Spokane Qualifier in 2014. She was also a member of the USA A3 and A2 National Team programs.
Coming from an athletic family, Guttell's grandfather, Doug Mohns, played in the NHL for 22 years for the Boston Bruins, Chicago Black Hawks, Minnesota North Stars, Atlanta Flames and the Washington Capitals. Her mom, Lisa Ansin, was a member of Team USA in long course triathlons.
Guttell joins fall signees Lauren Bars of Nashville, Tennessee and Bayleigh Scott of Rockwall, Texas and recent transfer Caitlin Wernentin of Bettendorf, Iowa as the newest Rebels who will be here in the fall. Transfer Delaney Gallagher joined the team this spring.
