4/7/2017 | Women's Tennis
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Ole Miss women's tennis team dropped the doubles point to No. 1 Florida, but came back in singles to make it interesting before the Gators closed out the match 4-0 at Scott Linder Stadium Friday.
The Gators earned 6-2 wins on courts one and two to go up 1-0, but singles would be a different story for the Rebels.
Ole Miss had an opportunity to win the first set on five courts, but ultimately they split the sets 3-3. The Rebels won the first set at two, three and six and went to tiebreakers on one and five.
The Gators took a 2-0 lead when No. 29 Anna Danilina defeated Tea Jandric 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 singles and then went up 3-0 as No. 13 Belinda Woolcock topped Arianne Hartono 7-6(6), 6-3 at No. 1 singles.
Natalie Suk won her first set 6-3, but lost the second and third sets 6-3, 6-3 to No. 25 Ingrid Neel for the final 4-0 score.

Thoughts from head coach Mark Beyers...
"Florida played great doubles today. In singles we really played at a high level, especially early in the matches and had opportunities to win five first sets. Unfortunately, we lost a couple of tiebreakers to split the six first sets 3-3. We had some great battles in singles but couldn't come up with the win. Overall a good performance against the top team in the nation. We have to come out and play at the same level Sunday against No. 13 South Carolina."
