OXFORD, Miss. - With just 16 days until the 2017 season begins, the Ole Miss volleyball team reported back to campus Tuesday for the start of preseason camp and had their first practices Wednesday in the newly-renovated Gillom Sports Center.

Back together againรขโ‚ฌยฆ
With everyone back in town, the players went through several meetings on Tuesday afternoon before the unveiling of the new Nike gear for the year. That evening the players and coaches enjoyed a team dinner on the square.

Home sweet homeรขโ‚ฌยฆ
After spending the 2016 season in The Pavilion, one of the top basketball arenas in the country, the Rebels are excited to be back in the newly-renovated Gillom Sports Center. The facility underwent a major renovation, including the competition area, coach's offices, team locker rooms, meeting rooms. In addition to all that, Gillom now houses a brand new training room and weight room and two video rooms for the volleyball, soccer and softball teams to use when watching game film. Everything they need to be successful is right in their own backyard.

First practiceรขโ‚ฌยฆ
While the entire team was on campus for the second summer term, Wednesday marked the first time for head coach Steven McRoberts - now in his fourth year at Ole Miss - and the staff to watch the complete team practice together. The Rebels held two team practices, one in the morning and one in the evening, with position practices in between the two team practices.

Gibson, Thompson lead the wayรขโ‚ฌยฆ
Senior outside hitters Kate Gibson and Lexi Thompson lead the way for the Rebels in 2017. Both battled right to the end of 2016 for the single-season kills record, with Thompson (437) finishing just ahead of Gibson (427). The pair achieved their 1,000th career kill last year and could both become the first 1,000/1,000 members in the rally scoring era at Ole Miss. Gibson needs 37 digs to get there and Thompson needs 82 to accomplish the feat.

New kids on the blockรขโ‚ฌยฆ
The Rebels boast five new players on the team this year, including freshman setter Lauren Bars of Nashville, Tennessee, transfers Delaney Gallagher (middle blocker) and Caitlin Wernentin (outside hitter) and freshmen Barrett Guttell and Bayleigh Scott.

Academic Success Continuesรขโ‚ฌยฆ
Last month, the Rebels were recognized for receiving the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2016-17 academic year with a 3.38 grade point average. With four newcomers added to the team for the second summer term the Rebels posted a 3.46 GPA.

Meet the Rebelsรขโ‚ฌยฆ
Ole Miss fans should make their plans for 2017 Meet the Rebels Day Saturday. Members of the squad will be autographing new team posters and visiting with fans from 1 until 3 p.m., at the Manning Center. Fans posting on social media about their Meet the Rebels Day experience should use the hashtag #MeetTheRebels.

Ole Miss opens the 2017 season Aug. 25 at home hosting the Rebel Invitational at the Gillom Sports Center. The Rebels will kick off the tournament against Louisiana Tech at 11 a.m.
