Women's Tennis Wraps Opening Weekend at All-American

ITA All-American Championships Central 

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. -
A pair of Rebels represented Ole Miss women's tennis in the opening weekend of the Riviera Women's ITA All-American Championships held at the Riviera Tennis Club and Pepperdine University. 

Junior Anna Vrbenska was the most successful on the day, defeating ranked opponent Margot Decker (Kansas State) 6-4 6-3 in the opening round of pre-qualifying action. Vrbenska then went on to defeat Anastasia Iamachkine (Pepperdine) 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 before falling in the qualifier final to Oregon's Daniela Nasser 6-1 3-6 6-3. Decker is ranked No. 111 by the ITA Preseason Rankings, while Vrbenska is ranked No. 122. 

Senior Tea Jandric, who carried No. 8 seed into the draw, defeated Genevieve Zeiden (Cal St. Fullerton) in a grueling 6-7(4), 7-6(5), 6-3 contest in the opening round. Jandric then dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision to No. 95 Bojana Markovic (Texas).

Jandric will team up with sophomore Sabina Machalova for the doubles qualifying, which begins Tuesday at the Riviera Tennis Club. Machalova is also slated to compete in the qualifying singles draw Tuesday, scheduled for a 12:15 first serve. Jandric/Machalova rank 49th in the ITA Preseason for doubles.
