Coach McRoberts Press Conference Week #6

Ole Miss head volleyball coach Steven McRoberts met with members of the media Monday as part of the fall sports weekly press conference... McRoberts discussed the Rebels SEC home weekend and what's ahead...
Opening Statement…
It was kind of a rough weekend at home. We were definitely expecting better results than we achieved, and it is really tough to find your team identity once SEC play starts. We had a lot of momentum going into that last week of the pre-conference schedule, and then it just seemed like we had an injury and some players lost their confidence. Next thing you know, we're trying to find ourselves again in SEC play... When you get into SEC play, every team is so good that it's just tough to get that momentum and confidence back, and that's where we're at right now..."
On the continued success from junior Emily Stroup
"She is playing like an All-American right now. Friday night against Georgia she had an incredible match for our team. We just have to find a couple more players that can help her out from a kill stand point. Sunday, she had another nice match from a points perspective, but kind of ran out of gas in the fourth set, and that's where we need others to step up..."
Looking back at Georgia and Auburn
"We had multiple opportunities in the first and third sets to win those... when you have those set points, if you don't execute and you don't get them, it seems like it kills the momentum. When you finish off a set and you're going to the other side, you can feel like you flipped the match and you have a chance... We had a couple momentum killers Friday, but I feel like we competed very well. We hit almost .300 as a team, so our offense played well. We just didn't make good defensive stops when we needed to... then Sunday, we had multiple chances again even though I didn't feel like we start the match well, we got better as we went on, especially in the third set, when we controlled the whole thing and I thought for sure we had the momentum going into the fourth...
On his middle blockers...
Aubrey Sultemeier had a nice match coming off hte bench Sunday. Bayleigh Scott had a great match- we started her for the first time in SEC play, and she did really well... Anytime your middle blockers are playing well, that means you're passing the ball well, too. That has been a problem of ours with first contact, so it was nice to see that come around..."
Looking Ahead
"We have good team chemistry, and we have all the things as a coach that you would want to work yourself out of a hole... we're not worried about any of the small things like that. A lot of the issues with our tea are details that we are just not taking care of. We are looking forward to having a good week of practice and preparation as we head to Arkansas, who has also been struggling. They haven't won in the league either, and then we get back and host LSU, who hasn't won either. Somebody is going to get some momentum after this weekend, and we hope it's us..."
