Women's Tennis Impressive on Day 1 of ITA Regional

OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss women's tennis impressed on the opening day of the 2018 ITA South Regionals, held on site at the Parker/Salloum Tennis Center.
Five Rebels advance to the Round of 16s Saturday after pulling off two victories each in the Main Singles Draw. All three of Ole Miss' duos were also victorious today, earning a berth in the Round of 16s beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday.
"Great start today at the Regionals," head coach Mark Beyers said. "Proud of our kids, not only for the way we played but how we competed from beginning to end. Really looking forward to seeing if we can build on this tomorrow."
Sophomore Sabina Machalova cruised to victory, taking down her opening round competitor 6-1, 6-1 and defeating in-state and league rivals Mississippi State in the Round of 32.
Doubles partner Tea Jandric also took down a Bulldog, defeating Mississippi State's Meredith Roberts in a 6-4, 6-3 decision.
Redshirt junior Tereza Janatova also produced, picking up a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Tulane's Christine Sisti at the city's FNC Tennis Center-John Leslie Courts then succeeding over South Alabama's Stiteler 7-5, 6-0.
Senior Alexa Bortles made quick work in her singles play action, defeating Troy's Tingting Pei 6-3, 6-2 and then securing victory Fujioka of South Alabama (6-3, 6-4).
Freshman Isolde De Jong turned in a strong debut, picking up a victory in doubles with partner Bortles, and then earning a victory in the Round of 32 over Louisiana-Monroe's Alfaro 6-3, 6-1.
