MURRAY, Ky. – Personal-best efforts by junior Alana Kelly and redshirt freshman Jillian Zakrzeski led the No. 11 Ole Miss rifle team, but the Rebels were outshot by No. 5 Murray State, 4692-4650, Saturday at the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range in Murray, Kentucky.
Smallbore report…
The Rebels tallied 2301 in the opening event, while Murray State fired 2327. The Racers claimed the first three spots paced by MacKenzie Martin's 586. Sophomore Abby Buesseler's score of 578 was tied for fourth to power the Rebels. She recorded an identical score with her sister, Dana, of Murray State. Zakrzeski secured 193 points in standing, to set a career best. Her score of 577 was one below her personal best. Junior Hayley Carroll and senior Randi Loudin each recorded marks of 573 to round out the Rebel scoring.
Zakrzeski, Kelly continue air rifle success…
Murray State bettered Ole Miss, 2365-2349, in air rifle. Barbara Schläper shot a match-best 596. Zakrzeski tied her career-best shot of 595 for second. Her aggregate of 1172 helped her finish third overall and good for a personal best. Kelly tied the top mark she earned last week at the Ole Miss Open (588), and also equaled her personal-best aggregate of 1160. Sophomore Sophia Cuozzo earned a season-best score of 587. Both Carroll and sophomore Kamilla Kisch notched 584 points and counted for Ole Miss.

On Murray State…
"Murray shot well today. They are clearly one of the top teams in the country."
On team's performance…
"Our combined team score was just a couple of points below our season average. We were pleased to see redshirt freshman Jillian Zakrzeski continue to improve her personal bests. Her 595 air rifle is a competitive score. We also saw several other good things – we just need to be mindful and recognize when things begin to get off track and reset before continuing."
On next competition…
"Up next is the USA Shooting Air Gun Championships at the U.S. Olympic Training Center (in Colorado Springs). We have five attending (Nov. 30-Dec. 1) which should be good experience for us. Winter Air has over 300 participants and is fired under Olympic rules which use decimal scoring, so that match will be a nice change of pace."
Up Next…
A total of five Rebels will compete at the USA Shooting Air Gun Championships, Nov. 30 – Dec. 1. Ole Miss will resume its NCAA schedule on Saturday, Jan. 12 in Columbus, Ohio and will shoot alongside Ohio State and Alaska Fairbanks.
