Rebel Kicker Was 5-for-5 on Field Goals at Vanderbilt
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Ole Miss football sophomore kicker Luke Logan earned his second Special Teams Player of the Week honor for the 2018 season, the Southeastern Conference office announced Monday.
The sophomore out of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, connected on all five of his field goal attempts, including the game-tying field goal with 40 seconds remaining to send the game to overtime at Vanderbilt. Logan hit from 32, 20, 22, 35 and 32 yards out in the 36-29 defeat in Nashville. He was also a perfect 2-for-2 on PAT attempts.
Logan previously earned a Co-Special Teams Player of the Week nod in the first week of the season, when he went 4-for-4 in a 47-27 win over Texas Tech.
Logan has been fantastic for the Rebels in his first year as the starting place kicker after replacing one of the program's all-time greats at the position, Gary Wunderlich. He is 21-for-26 (80.8 percent) on the season with a long of 40 yards. Logan is also a near-perfect 45-for-46 on PAT attempts.
The 21 field goals made put Logan at No. 3 on the Rebels' single-season charts, one behind Wunderlich's career-best of 22 (2016) and four behind the program record of 25 set by Jonathan Nichols in 2003.
Logan has tacked 108 points on the board for the Rebels in 2018, making him the SEC's leading scorer on the year. That mark also ranks fifth in the nation this season and third all-time in Ole Miss single-season history behind Wunderlich's 120 (2015) and Nichols' 124 (2003).
Logan also ranks fifth in FBS and first in the SEC in per-game scoring at 9.8 points per contest. He's second in the SEC and fourth nationally with 1.91 field goals per game.
