Doubles Dominate In Men's Tennis Action

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.– A pair of Ole Miss men's tennis doubles teams found success advancing in the CCB Collegiate Invitational, hosted by the University of Alabama at The Country Club of Birmingham on Saturday. Freshman Jan Soren Hain also moved on in singles competition.
The day began with action in the white doubles draw as Soren Hain and Simon Junk teamed up to defeat Ronit Bisht and Jorman Reyes of Southern Miss in a nailbiter, 8-7(6). The pair followed with another close match, 8-7 (3), prevailing over Akos Kotorman and Tim Ruetzal of Tulane.
Freshman Sebastian Rios and sophomore Cotter Wilson cruised past Jacob Pugh and Stijn Slump of Middle Tennessee State, 8-1 after an opening round bye in houndstooth doubles competition. Soren Hain, Junk, Rios, and Wilson, will continue doubles play on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. CT.
In the crimson singles draw, Soren Hain defeated East Tennessee State's Sergi Fontcuberta, 7-6 (5), 6-1. The freshman from Wetzlar, Germany advances to Saturday's quarterfinal against Ruetzal, which is slated for 9:00 a.m. CT. The semifinal rounds are scheduled for noon.
Freshman Simon Junk fell to Frazier Rengifo, also of ETSU, 7-5, 2-6, 6-3. He will compete in the consolation bracket at 9:00 a.m., Saturday.
In the white singles draw, Wilson was outlasted by Max Lapraille of South Alabama, 6-2, 6-3. Wilson returns to the court tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. in consolation action.
Rios, Ole Miss' third freshman competing Saturday was edged by Tom El Safadi of UAB at 6-4, 6-3. Rios' tournament continues Saturday at noon.
