Rebels’ Offensive Line Coach Named to List That Honors Nation’s Top Assistant
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Ole Miss offensive line coach Jack Bicknell Jr. is among the nominees for the 2018 Broyles Award, the Frank & Barbara Broyles Foundation announced Wednesday.
The Broyles Award, which honors the nation's top assistant college football coach, will announce a winner on Tuesday, Dec. 4 , in Little Rock, Arkansas.
A 32-year coaching veteran, Bicknell has overseen an offensive line group that has helped an Ole Miss offense that ranks top-10 nationally in both passing yards and total offense. The Rebels are amongst the top three in the SEC in 10 different offensive categories.
Under Bicknell's guidance, tackle Greg Little was named to the watch list for the Outland Trophy, while center Sean Rawlings was named to Rimington Trophy watch list, as well as a semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy. Little, a junior out of Allen, Texas, also earned second team All-American honors at the midway point of the 2018 season by Sports Illustrated, USA Today, Associated Press and Athlon.
The Broyles Award was established in 1996 to honor legendary Arkansas head coach Frank Broyles. Coach Broyles had a track record of producing some of the most successful assistant coaches in college football history.
The selection process includes the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), a college football hall-of-fame selection committee and current college head coaches.
This year marks the third time the Frank & Barbara Broyles Foundation has presented the award. Proceeds from the 2018 Broyles Award support the mission of the Broyles Foundation; to provide education, support, and resources to Alzheimer's caregivers.
