Ole Miss Drops Game Two to Texas A&M

3/10/2018 | Softball

March 10, 2018

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - No. 18 Ole Miss (13-6, 0-2 SEC) struggled to find its footing offensively Saturday afternoon against No. 7 Texas A&M (23-3, 2-0 SEC), managing three hits against the Aggies in a 7-0 defeat.

Freshman Anna Borgen made the start and took her second loss of the season, allowing three runs on five hits in 3.1 innings. Morgan Bruce came on in relief in the fourth and threw 2.0 frames, surrendering three runs on four hits. Ava Tillmann got the final two outs for the Rebels, allowing one run on two hits.

The Aggies struck early, tallying a run in the second. TAMU pitcher Samantha Show gave herself some early run production, scoring Sarah Hudek from second with a bloop single into no-man's-land in left field.

Texas A&M added to their lead in the fourth. The Aggies doubled the advantage with a no-doubter to left and added another run later on when Show helped herself out again with an RBI single up the middle.

The Aggie lead could have grown significantly in the fifth frame but Bruce did a great job working out of a bases-loaded jam with a swinging-strikeout of Hudek.

Texas A&M opened things up in the sixth inning, registering four runs on four hits and a Rebel error, leaving one on base. The Rebels were retired in order in the top of the seventh, closing out the ball game.

The Rebels will look to salvage a win in the series finale Sunday, taking on Texas A&M at 1 p.m. The game will be available nationally on TV, broadcasted live on the SEC Network.
