BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Just one month after claiming SEC Golfer of the Week honors, Ole Miss' Julia Johnson has been named SEC Freshman of the Week.
The freshman out of St. Gabriel, Louisiana, is the first Rebel to earn both Freshman of the Week and Golfer of the Week honors.
Johnson finished seventh this week at the Henssler Financial Intercollegiate in Kennesaw, Georgia, shooting 4-over par (73-73-74--220) in cold and windy conditions at Pinetree Country Club.
Johnson recorded her sixth-consecutive top-20 finish and her fifth top-10 of the season. She tallied the third-most birdies in the field with 11, giving her a team-best 91 on the season. It was her sixth tournament this year with double-figure birdies.
Johnson finished second among Rebels in Kennesaw, just one stroke ahead of fellow freshman Conner Beth Ball and six strokes behind senior Katy Harris. Harris shot a career-best 67 in Round 3 to finish tied for second. The senior out of St. Simons Island, Georgia just narrowly missed out on Golfer of the Week honors, which went to Georgia's Jillian Hollis, who won the PING/ASU Invitational.
The Ole Miss golf program took home three of the four SEC weekly honors. Braden Thornberry captured Golfer of the Week while Cecil Wegener swiped Freshman of the Week as the Rebels swept the men's honors.
