SEC Release
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Rebel freshman Waleed Suliman has been named the SEC Men's Freshman of the Week following a stellar outdoor season opener in the 800-meter at the Joe Walker Invite last weekend, the conference announced Tuesday.
Suliman currently owns the fastest time in the nation by a freshman in the 800 at his winning time of 1:47.29 - which also leads the NCAA East Region by a half-second. That time puts him No. 5 overall in the NCAA this year and No. 6 all-time outdoors at Ole Miss in just his first outdoor meet as a Rebel.
The Richmond, Va., native was a large part of a superb weekend of competition from the Ole Miss distance runners, with Suliman's time helping propel the Rebel men to No. 4 nationally in the USTFCCCA #EventSquad rankings in the 800-meter.
Ole Miss will split squad for three separate meets this upcoming weekend. The Rebel distance runners will head back to California for both the Mt. SAC Relays and the Bryan Clay Invite, while the rest of the team will head to Auburn for the War Eagle Invite.
