OXFORD, Miss. - After reaching the SEC Tournament Semifinals for the 11th time in program history, the Ole Miss women's tennis team moved up to No. 5 in the latest Oracle/ITA Rankings announced Tuesday. This marks 14 straight weeks for the Rebels to be ranked in the top 25.
Ole Miss is one of five SEC teams in the top 10 and seven in the top 25. Vanderbilt (1), Georgia (8), Florida (9), South Carolina (10), Auburn (21) and Kentucky (25) round out the SEC teams in the top 25.
The Rebels (20-6, 9-4 SEC) defeated host Tennessee in the second round of the SEC Tournament and then downed No. 8 Georgia 4-1, before losing to No. 1 and eventual champion, Vanderbilt, in the semifinals.
In the latest individual rankings, senior Arianne Hartono continues her outstanding season, moving up eight spots to a career-high No. 5 in singles. It marks the highest singles ranking by a Rebel since four-time All-American Agnes Muzamel ended the 1997 campaign ranked No. 2. Hartono also teams with sophomore Alexa Bortles for a No. 7 ranking in doubles.
Hartono owns a 29-6 overall record, 20-2 at No. 1 singles and went 11-2 in the SEC. She has won nine straight. In doubles, she and Bortles are 21-11 overall, 12-6 at No. 1.
Freshman Sabina Machalova remained at No. 77 in singles with a 20-11 overall record, 12-8 in dual matches.
Ole Miss awaits the announcement of the 64-team NCAA Championship bracket, which will be revealed May 1 at 4 p.m. CT. The Rebels are in position to host the first and second rounds May 11-12.
