4/28/2018 | Softball
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Ole Miss struggled to get the offense going in Saturday's series opener at Arkansas, falling to the Razorbacks by a score of 3-0 at Bogle Park.
Despite taking the loss, starting pitcher Kaitlin Lee worked the Rebels (28-19, 5-14 SEC) out of trouble for the most part. The senior scattered eight Razorbacks (35-11, 10-9 SEC) hits to surrender three runs (two earned), striking out five in her 6.0 innings. Anna Borgen came in out of the bullpen for the final inning, allowing no runs on a single hit.
The Razorbacks got off to a hot start as Hannah McEwen took Lee deep to right field for a solo home run during their first at-bat. Arkansas put a couple more runners on in the inning on a single and an error but Lee was able to keep the damage to one.
In the second, Dylinn Stancil lost a ball in the sun and the Razorbacks took advantage, bringing the runner home on Autumn Buczek's single through the left side, extending their lead to 2-0.
The Razorbacks added an unearned run in the third as McEwen came around from second on an error at third base for Ole Miss, extending their lead to 3-0. The Rebels went down in order in the seventh, closing out the game.
Ole Miss and Arkansas will resume the series Sunday at 4 p.m. at Bogle Park. The game will be broadcasted nationally on ESPNU.
