Kizer Notches Hat Trick as Rebs Top WKU 4-0

8/19/2018 | Soccer

OXFORD, Miss. – After a bit of a slow start to the match, Ole Miss came alive in the second half, scoring three times on the way to a 4-0 victory over WKU Sunday night at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium.

Openging her account for the season in Friday's opener, CeCe Kizer turned it up a notch on Sunday, netting a hat-trick to lead the Rebels to victory.

For the second-consecutive match the opposition didn't provide too much work for veteran keeper Marnie Merritt but the Fifth-year senior was solid as ever when called upon, claiming back-to-back clean sheets to kick-off the 2018 campaign.

While the Rebels were dangerous in the opening half, Ole Miss was unable to come up with the finishing product time and again. However, CeCe Kizer broke through right before the break, weaving past multiple defenders and tucking her shot in the bottom left corner of the goal.

The two sides didn't return to the pitch for long to start the second half, entering into a lightning delay just 12 minutes after the whistle. Rather than come out flat following the 35-minute delay, the Rebels came out on fire, quickly bagging a pair of goals to seize control.

Kizer picked up her second of the night from the penalty spot, placing her shot perfectly into the upper-90 after WKU was called for handling inside the 18-yard box. Just over a minute later, the Rebel lead grew to three on an own goal from a Mary Kate Smith service.

Kizer closed things out in the 72nd-minute, getting on the end of a Channing Foster chipped through ball and dribbling by the crashing keeper before scoring on the empty goal.

With 10 goals and a pair of clean sheets through the season's first two matches, Ole Miss will face its first road test of the season on Friday, heading North to Minnesota to take on the Golden Gophers at 7 p.m. in Minneapolis.
