Jordan Ta'amu Returns to Lead Rebel Offense in 2018
This is the eighth of an eight-part position-by-position preview series looking ahead at what the Ole Miss Rebels' depth chart might look like for the 2018 season.
Jordan Ta'amu returns behind center after shining in the final five games of the 2017 season. The senior out of Pearl City, Hawaii, went 3-2 to close his junior campaign and take full reins of the Rebel offense.
In his first career start, Ta'amu threw for 368 yards, the most passing yards ever by an Ole Miss QB making his first career start. He went on to complete 115 of 173 passes for 1,682 yards. Ta'amu tallied 11 touchdown passes compared to just four interceptions, adding four scores on the ground as well.
Newcomer Matt Corral is expected to handle snaps behind Ta'amu. Corral was a U.S. Army All-American and was ranked the No. 3 pro-style QB in the 2018 recruiting class.
The Californian joined the Rebels in the spring and has worked all summer and fall to get a grasp on the playbook. He has grown more and more comfortable in Phil Longo's offense and regularly displayed tremendous arm skills throughout fall camp.
Top Performer: Jordan Ta'amu (115-of-173, 1,682 yards, 11 touchdowns, four interceptions)
Returning in 2018: Ta'amu (Sr., 1L), Grant Restmeyer (So, SQ),
Newcomers in 2018: Matt Corral (Fr., Long Beach Poly, Calif.), Jacob Cendoya (Fr., Alpharetta, Ga.), Ford Werness (Fr., Raleigh, N.C.)
Losing from 2017 Team: Shea Patterson (Transfer)
