Rebels conclude Miami Fall Invite with three draw titles

MIAMI, Fla.  –
Ole Miss women's tennis concluded its 2018 fall debut this past weekend, taking three draw victories at the Miami Fall Invite, spanning from Friday to Sunday in Coral Gables, Fla., at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. 
 
The Rebels got off to a sluggish start Friday, taking just three victories out of a possible 10.  The doubles team of senior Tea Jandric and sophomore Sabina Machalova emerged from the Doubles A Main Draw quarterfinals victoriously 6-1 over Michigan's Lommer/Patiuk duo.
 
In the B Main Draw, the junior pair of Alexa Bortles and Tereza Janatova defeated a mixed team from Miami/Michigan 7-6 (7-3). Janatova was the lone singles victor on the day, defeating Pittsburgh's Mariona Perez Noguera 6-0, 6-1 in the Singles B Main Draw. 
 
Jandric and Machalova continued to cruise to victory, taking the Doubles A Main title after a semifinal victory over Florida's nationally-ranked duet  (No. 57)of Ida Jarlskog/McCartney Kessler 6-3 Saturday and then defeating Michigan's Yuna Ito/Ulyana Shirokova 7-6 (7-3) Sunday to claim the crown. Jandric and Machalova also carry a national ranking, coming in at No. 49 in the first Intercollegiate Tennis Association groupings. 
 
Bortles and Janatova were also victorious Saturday, defeating Florida's Katie Kubicz/Marlee Zein 6-2. The duo finished second in the Doubles B Flight, falling in the finals Sunday to Michigan's Anca Craciun/Bella Lorenzini (6-3).
 
In the Doubles B Consolation Draw, senior Allie Sanford and junior Cameron Kriscunas picked up the title (finishing fifth overall) after wins over Pittsburgh's Barolome/Lucas 6-2 Saturday and Noguera/Rezende 6-2 Sunday. 
 
Machalova also secured the Singles 'A' Consolation Flight,  after a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory over Michigan's Alyvia Jones in Saturday's consolation quarterfinals and trumping teammate Jandric 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 Sunday. Jandric advanced to the Sunday title after defeating Pitt's Natsumi Okamoto 6-0, 6-2 Saturday
 
Full results are included in the links above. The Rebels return to the court next weekend, traveling to Pacific Palisades, Calif., for the ITA All-American.
