Coach McRoberts Weekly Press Conference #2

Ole Miss volleyball head coachย Steven McRobertsย met with members of the media on Monday as part of his weekly press conference. Coach McRoberts discussed the Rebels' perfect weekend, sweeping the Rebel Invitational...
Opening Statement
"What a great weekend for our program. I want to give a shout out to my staff- Ronaldo Pacheco [associate head coach] and Tori Plugge [assistant coach] did such a nice job getting our team ready for these last two weeks and the tough matches that took place. Damaris Linker, our Director of Ops, ran a fantastic tournament and multiple teams told me that. It's always nice to host in the new Gillom Center. Every time a team comes in, they talk about how nice our facility is. It's the best volleyball facility in the SEC- I know I've said that before but it truly is, and that gets reinforced when all these visiting teams come in and comment about it."

On the Ohio State victoryย
"A great weekend with a big win Friday over Ohio State. That's back-to-back weeks that we've defeated a team receiving votes in the Top 25 Poll. I'm not sure when the last time that's happened at Ole Miss, but it's the first time since I've been here. Really proud of the team and how they're playing."

On the team's performanceย
"Emily Stroup is continuing on her early pace of scoring a lot of points for us. She knows she can get better in her efficiency, but was still named MVP of the tournament. Aubrey Sultemeier [freshman middle blocker] is off to a reallyย ย nice start for us as well. She had a couple of really nice matches this weekend. Jordan Fate, one of our setters- and Lauren Bars could be in that conversation with Jo about how well our offense played this weekend, but Jordan was also named to the All-Tournament team."

On the promising start to the 2018 season...ย
"We've done something we haven't done in the last five years, and that's set ourselves up as we head into SEC play if we take care of business the rest of our pre-conference schedule. We've set ourselves up to have a pretty nice RPI coming into conference play. Typically, when we've had a good preseason, we've been in the mid-60's, and we're projected right now in the 30's, and that would beย ย huge. That's in the at-large range for us. Our SEC schedule sets up really tough for us this year- we play four or five of the predicted top four or five, twice.ย I like this team. They're very competitive. We had some tough battles this weekend, and pulled them out. In the past, we just haven't be able to do that. We're really excited about that."

On the upcoming Georgia State Tournament...ย
"This weekend coming up we head to Atlanta, and if we head into that weekend with the same focus and urgency that we've been playing with, hopefully we get three more wins before we play Memphis at home next Tuesday."
