CORAL GABLES, Fla.
– The 2019 NCAA season officially kicked off for Ole Miss Men's Tennis at the Miami Spring Invite with freshman Karlo Kranic and doubles pair Sebastian Rios and Cotter Wilson picking up victories at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center on Friday.

Ole Miss began Friday with doubles action against hosts Miami. Rios, a rookie from Baldwyn, Miss. and Wilson, a sophomore from Shreveport, La., dispatched Tatsuki Shimamoto and Pablo Aycart Joya in heart stopping fashion, 8-7 (7-4).

Three other Rebel pairs fell to the Hurricanes in close duels. Senior Fabian Fallert and junior Tim Sandkaulen, a 2018 NCAA Tournament duo, were edged by A. Soriano Barrera/Kaya Gore in an 8-7 (7-3) tiebreaker. Fellow veteran Filip Kraljevic teamed with Kranic, and rookies Simon Junk and Jan Soren Hain were both defeated 8-4.

The last matches of the day pitted No. 8 Texas against the Rebels in singles play. Kranic secured his victory against Johnny Goodwin, 7-5, 6-2. The Longhorns boasted two ranked individuals in No. 4 Christian Sigsgaard and No. 103 Chih Chi Huang, who outscored Kraljevic (6-4, 6-1) and Junk (6-1, 6-3), respectively. Fallert, Sandkaulen, Wilson, and Soren Hain were also trumped, though Sandkaulen battled his way through three sets before succumbing to defeat.
