OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss Men's Tennis coasted to victory in its 2019 home debut, picking up back-to-back 4-0 wins to improve to 2-1 on the young season Saturday at the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center located along Manning Way.
Sophomore Cotter Wilson and freshman Jan Soren Hain swung to impress in singles play, with Wilson surrendering just one game across 25, and Hain allowing just two through 26. Junior Tim Sandkaulen also picked up two victories in singles action.
Both contests were in clinch format, leaving multiple courts with unfinished play.
MATCH 1: OLE MISS 4, NORTH ALABAMA 0
The Rebels took advantage early, picking up the doubles point in quick fashion, with the veteran duo of senior Filip Kraljevic and Sandkaulen setting up the duo of fellow veteran Fabian Fallert and Wilson clinching the doubles point with a 6-1 decision.
Ole Miss maintained the momentum, led by Wilson and Hain's quick victories in singles at No.4 and 5, respectively. With a 3-0 lead, Sandkaulen provided the clinch with a perfect 6-0 second set.
MATCH 2: OLE MISS 4, NORTH ALABAMA 0
Starting with singles, the Rebels performed in nearly identical fashion to open up the latter contest.
Wilson continued to impress, again starting with another opening set sweep to set the tone for the remaining five courts, as each Rebel picked up their first game. The sophomore cruised to victory and handed Ole Miss their first point of the match with dominant straight sets.
The rest of the Rebels looked to ride his momentum, playing with even more intensity as time stretched. Fallert was second to notch one on the scoreboard for Ole Miss, putting the Rebels up 2-0 after a 6-2, 6-1 decision at the third singles position.
Sandkaulen, who clinched the singles point in the morning match, was next to finish, first going up 6-2 before finalizing things with a 6-4 win.
After taking control in his first set at 6-1, Hain provided the clinch in what turned out to ultimately be the finale, sweeping his second set.

Thoughts on the home opener…
"Today went very well. We had great energy throughout the whole day- especially having two matches in the same day, because that is always tough- and it was an unbelievable crowd supporting us today. I didn't expect that, and I'm so happy they came out to support the team… We've been building things since the start of the season. You know, we came back from Florida a few days ago, which we did a good job at, and we have a few new players, so it's important to play dual matches like this to get them experience. The whole team understands what is required of them, and each time we step onto the court is an improvement. Today was a great way to start the season."
Taking the play from today into next weekend's ITA Kick-Off…
"We saw a couple guys today that are really starting to play good tennis early. Cotter [Wilson] is playing very well. He was dominant today. Fabi [Fabian Fallert] is getting back to where he was playing when he was at his very best. We're seeing good things from Tim [Sandkaulen] as well, who is really starting to put things together, Jan [Soren Hain] is showing he can compete at a high level. Overall, I'm just excited about where the team is going and I think this is going to prepare us really well for what is to come, especially out in California."
On the crowd…
"It was an amazing crowd, and I know the players appreciated that and it gave them an extra push. It was also great that they were able to stay focused but also took the crowd as an extra boost of energy."
