Women’s Tennis Wraps Up Day 1 in Hawaii

A pair of singles and doubles wins highlight the opening round
HONOLULU, Hawaii – Ole Miss Women's Tennis began the latter portion of its western road trip Friday, taking on Hawaii and Washington in a "hidden dual" format at the Weinman Foundation Invitational, hosted by Hawaii. The Rebels begin the season ranked No. 12 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
Senior Tea Jandric made her 2019 debut, picking up a victory in singles after not surrendering a set against Hawaii's Petra Melounova. Junior Tereza Janatova, ranked No. 112 in the latest ITA Individual listings, battled another ranked opponent in Washington's Katarina Kopcalic (No. 90), taking the edge after a 6-3 opening set before dropping the second 6-1 and being outlasted in the tiebreaking set 7-6 (7-5).
Also victorious was fellow junior Cameron Kriscunas, who rallied back from a sweep in the opening set to win 6-3, 6-4.
Jandric teamed with partner Sabina Machalova to take a 6-1 victory in doubles against Washington, where the veteran duo of junior Alexa Bortles and senior Allie Sanford joined them, trumping the Huskies 6-2.
The Rebels continue Hawaiian play, Saturday at 3 p.m. CT.
