Rebel Senior Bested by Tournament’s No. 3 Seed on Thursday
TULSA, Okla. – The run for Ole Miss men's tennis senior Tim Sandkaulen was ended Thursday in the second round of the ITA All-American Championships singles draw by the tournament's No. 3 seed Yuya Ito of Texas.
Sandkaulen, the No. 25 ITA ranked player, claimed the first set 7-5 in his upset bid. Ito responded with a 6-4 win to set up a decisive finale. The final set went to Ito following another 6-4 gutsy finish at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the University of Tulsa campus.
Ito entered the match ranked No. 4 by the ITA, and last season helped Texas claim its first national championship in program history and reached the NCAA Singles Championship Round of 16.
Sandkaulen entered with an impressive list of accomplishments as well. The veteran reached the second round of the same NCAA Singles Championship and won the John Breaux Cajun Tennis Classic title in late September.
